Practice Monster
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Practice Monster collects, uses, and shares information when you use the web application at https://practice.monster (the "Service").
Last updated .
Information we collect
- In order for you to use the Service, we need to store basic account details, including your email address, display name, and password. We also allow you to upload your own profile picture. None of this information is shared with third parties.
- The Service allows you to create content, such as your instruments and songs. Additionally, the Service has customizable settings. We store your content and settings on our servers. Some of this content may optionally be shared with other users that you approve as friends. However, this content sharing is disabled by default, and when enabled, content can only be accessed by users that you have approved as friends.
- If you pair a hardware tuner, we store a device identifier, a pairing token, the device model, and when it last checked in, so it can load your tuner presets. Audio from the tuner stays on the device.
- We also collect some basic analytics to help us understand how the Service is used. These analytics do not include any personally identifiable information and are not processed by any third parties.
How we use it
We use this information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Create, authenticate, and maintain access to your account
- Show your profile and shared data to people you have connected with, according to the controls you set in Settings
- Understand how the Service is used
- Operate the Service, prevent abuse, and enforce the Terms of Service
When we share it
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only:
- With people you explicitly connect with. Users that you have not approved as friends cannot see your profile or shared content.
- If required by law, or to protect the Service, our users, or others
We use a third party email provider to deliver account-related emails. These emails may contain basic profile information or certain notification content.
Cookies and local storage
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. The session cookie is limited to this site, sent only over HTTPS, and is not readable by scripts in the page. We do not use advertising cookies.
Third-party services
The Service loads some resources from third parties, which may receive your IP address or similar technical data:
- Google Fonts, for the typefaces used in the app
- Google's favicon service, for small icons next to song links you add
- YouTube (privacy-enhanced embed), if you add a YouTube link to a song and play it here
Those services have their own privacy policies.
Device permissions
The in-browser tuner may ask for microphone access. Audio is processed on your device to detect pitch. We do not upload recordings. A paired hardware tuner also processes audio on the device and never uploads recordings.
The Android app offers an optional practice lock (in Settings) that keeps chosen apps closed during set hours until the day's practice is done. You can also allow each locked app a set amount of use during those hours before it waits for practice. When the lock is on, the app checks which app is in the foreground, and how long locked apps have been open during lock hours, so it can hold them closed after the time you set. It does not read what you do inside other apps, and this information stays on the device. It is never uploaded or shared. You can turn the lock off anytime. With the optional instant cover, the practice screen draws directly over locked apps instead of warning through a notification.
Retention
We keep account and content data while your account is open. If you delete your account from Settings, we delete the data attached to it. Residual copies may be retained in system backups.
Your choices
You can:
- Review and update your display name, bio, and privacy controls in Settings
- Choose who can find you, send friend requests, and see jam lists
- Turn optional emails on or off in Settings, or unsubscribe from a link in those emails
- Delete your account and the data attached to it from Settings
- Email us to ask about the information we hold
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new last-updated date.
